What are differences between rugby and American football?
1.Rugby Union is free-flowing, unlike American football, and doesn’t stop unless the ball goes out of bounds or there is a penalty. In this aspect, it is much more like European football (soccer). In American football, the play starts when the ball is hiked from the center, and ends with a tackle or if the ball goes out-of-bounds, or if the player attempting the catch the ball drops it before catching it.
2.Rugby is played without protective gear, while in American football, players are outfitted with all sorts of padding to reduce injuries.
3.In rugby, players can only pass the ball backwards or sideways (a lateral to you American football fans); However, in American football, the team in possession of the ball is allowed one forward pass, and an unlimited number of laterals.
