The Nets hosted the Heat today, and Mikal Bridges, the "Durant piece" who came to the team from the Kevin Durant trade, had a big burst, scoring a career-high 45 points as the Nets beat the Heat 116-105 to snap a two-game losing streak.
Bridges' previous high in a game was 34 points. He shot 17 of 24 from the field and scored 45 points, a career performance. In addition to him, another new classmate, Cameron Johnson, also scored 18 points, and Cam Thomas scored 19 points off the bench.
Bridges scored 12 points in the first quarter to help his team take a one-point lead. But Bridges had only five points in the second quarter because of a long rest, and the Heat took advantage to make it 56:52 ahead. Bridges added 11 points in the third quarter to help his team regain a three-point lead.
Bridges opened a solo show with more than 7 minutes left in the final quarter, scoring 15 straight points for the Nets, helping them extend their lead and eventually win.
Center Emmanuel Adebayor was the best in the losing Heat, contributing 24 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Jimmy Butler had 13 points and six assists, and Gabe Vincent added 21 points.
