Duke failed to advance to the NCAA Division I men's basketball championship game with an 81-77 loss to North Carolina on Tuesday despite being inferior in three-point shooting, overall shooting percentage and rebounding, ending the legendary career of "Coach K" Shershayski.

At this point, Davis of North Carolina made two free throws, and Love hit a 3-pointer to lead 78-74. Although Kearse made one of two free throws, Duke narrowed the deficit to two points, but North Carolina won by four points and went to the championship game after Love made both free throws.

Coach K's Duke lost today, denying him the chance to cap his career with a sixth NCAA title.

North Carolina's Love scored a game-high 28 points, R.J. Davis added 18, Brady Manek had 14 and Armando Bacot had a double-10 with 21 rebounds in addition to his 11 points.

Duke freshman Paolo Banchero led the team with 20 points, while Kearse added 19 off the bench and Wendell Moore Jr. had 13 points in sacks.

Earlier in the other Final Four, the University of Kansas opened with a 10: They led by as many as 19 points in the first half of the game before scoring 25 points from David McCormick and 21 from Ochai Agbaji and adding 11 points and 12 rebounds from Jalen Wilson. 65 beat Villanova University to advance to the championship game.
