The Minnesota Vikings, who have won seven in a row since September 25th, have been trying to take advantage of the Dallas Cowboys. The game ended in a 37-point defeat.
The Dallas Cowboys, led by 29-year-old quarterback Rayne Dakota Prescott of the NFL's NL East Division, visited the indoor U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in freezing temperatures on Sunday afternoon. The matchup against the 8-1 Vikings, led by 34-year-old quarterback Kirk Daniel Cousins, drew 65,304 fans for a 98% attendance rate. The Landowners dominated the game for 22 minutes and 36 seconds, scoring only three points on a 25-yard drive in the first quarter. The other three quarters were meaningless as the visitors led 23-3 at the half and blew the game away 40-3.
It was the Cowboys' only wild win since the NFL adopted a 16-game regular season in 1978.
The Cowboys didn't commit a turnover, scoring on their first seven drives of the game. Six foul calls for 39 yards. The Vikings had one turnover and 59 yards on seven foul calls. Neither team had an interception. The Cowboys rushed for 151 yards passing for 307 yards, while the Vikings rushed for 73 yards passing for 110 yards.
Since Sept. 24, 1961, the Cowboys and Vikings have faced each other 34 times in regular and playoff games, including five playoff games. The Cowboys have won 19 times and lost 15 times, scoring 770 points. The Vikings have scored 759 points over the years. The teams last met in Minnesota on Oct. 31, 2021, with the visiting team winning 20-16. In fact, before the day's game, the Cowboys were favored, because the team has been two games in a row.
Prescott, the Cowboys' primary quarterback, completed 22 of 25 passes on the day, completing 88 percent of his passes for 276 yards, two touchdowns without an interception or a sack, and a distance of 68 yards. In addition, he rushed for 16 yards on three carries and covered three teammates with 37 carries for 135 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
He has made only five starts this season due to injury, attempted at least 25 passes in each game, and made at least 14 receptions for at least 134 yards per game. And four consecutive games with at least one sack and two sacks.
The Vikings' leading rusher on the day completed just 12 of 23 passes, 52.17 percent of the time, for 105 yards, no touchdowns and seven sacks for a loss of 49 yards, the most of which was 15 yards.
The Cowboys' efficiency, offensively and defensively, was the key to breaking up the Vikings.
