Hon Hai has entered the Major League Baseball draft, the company announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Taipei time). The Ohio plant will partner this year with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, an Ohio local team in the MLB Draft League.
Hon Hai noted that during this season, Hon Hai's Oklahoma factory will sponsor the team's five specialty jersey nights and participate in its Every Sunday Matters home events, and is expected to donate the jersey proceeds to local communities and charities, as well as fully support the sports performance of baseball rookery.
Hon Hai previously formally acquired the Ohio production and assembly plant of U.S. commercial electric light truck supplier Lordstown, establishing a North American electric vehicle production base. In May last year, Hon Hai completed the Ohio asset purchase agreement, and started electric vehicle manufacturing business in the Ohio plant. Hon Hai's Ohio plant is in Mahoning Valley.
Industry sources pointed out that this is the first time Hon Hai Group participated in the Major League Baseball "draft league" related activities, mainly through the Oklahoma plant to establish a "good neighborly" relationship with the local community and the team. As for Hon Hai Group's intention to further invest in Major League Baseball teams, or even participate in Taiwan's Chinese Major League Baseball, it is still too early to say.
