In the final 12 days of the season, the Padres secured the NL wild card. Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish gave up two runs in six innings against the Rockies on Thursday, tying his record for most wins in a season with quality content. The Padres won 9-3.
Yu DARVISH PITCHED 87 PITCHES THROUGH SIX INNINGS, ALLOWING FIVE HITS, INCLUDING A HOME RUN, STRIKING OUT EIGHT AND EXITING WITH a 3-2 LEAD AS THE PADRES 'LINEUP EXPLODED IN THE SEVENTH INNING, SCORING SIX RUNS TO CLINCH THE VICTORY AND REMAIN IN SECOND PLACE IN THE NL WILD CARD STANDINGS AND IN PLAYOFF SAFETY.
Darvish's first season in the United States in 2012, he threw 16 wins with the Rangers, a record 16 wins in 10 years, and 95 wins in his career, which is getting closer and closer. Park Chan Ho and Nomo Hero are the only Asian players to reach the Yum milestone with 124 and 123 wins, respectively. Yu Darvish is expected to reach the milestone next year.
The PADRES, WHOSE TWO-GAME WINNING STREAK WAS HALTED BY YU DARvISH'S QUALITY STARTS, ARE 84-68 THIS SEASON AND REMAIN IN SECOND PLACE IN THE NL WEST. The only way to advance to the playoffs is to fight for a wild card and form a three-game tie with the Philadelphia Phillies and Brewers, and have no money to lose in the final 10 games of the regular season.
Darvish has won his last six starts since beating the Royals on Aug. 28 and has made seven quality starts in a row, going 16-7 with a 3.05 ERA in 29 starts this season and tied for third in the NL in wins with the Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin. He trails Kyle Wright of the Braves with 20 wins and Julio Urias of the Dodgers with 17 wins.
Yu DARvish HAS at most TWO MORE GAMES TO THROW before THE end OF THE SEASON, GIVING HIM A chance TO rewrite THE record for most wins in a single season
