The Padres' 37-year-old Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish has a bone spur, not ligament damage, and although his return to action this season is in doubt, the news has brought relief to him and his organization.

Yu Darvish said, "I am relieved that the ligament is OK." He will undergo cortisone injections and be temporarily suspended from training; Manager Bob Melvin said Darvish could play again this season if his elbow discomfort improves with an injection.

Yu Darvish has a strong will to return this season, is expected to resume after a few days off to catch, "my job is to play, I'm paid to come here to pitch, and if it doesn't end up coming back this season, it has to be that way, but if not even try, I feel it would be disrespectful to my work."

Darvish said that he did not rule out radical debridement surgery after the season, but it is not yet possible to fully determine whether the inflammation is caused by bone spurs, and the risk of surgery must be considered.
