The New York Mets of the Major League Baseball (MLB) have finished their regular 50-game season with a 50-50 record. Peter Morgan Alonso, a 28-year-old first baseman, hit 18 home runs, a highlight of the team's run and a possible candidate for the NL's most valuable Player of the year award.
The Mets continued their visit to Chicago's historic Wrigley Field on the evening of May 25. Alonso, batting fourth, struck a 372-foot home run to right field with one man on base and one out in the seventh.
Alonso has hit six home runs in his last nine games.
Aaron James Judge, right fielder for the New York Yankees of the American League, has hit 14 home runs so far. He hit 62 home runs last season; Fans everywhere expect Alonso to hit 60 or more home runs this season.
Alonso is a 6-foot-3 right-hander who didn't make his major league debut until March 28, 2019. He hit 53 home runs in his first season with the Mets, including 17 in his first 50 games. That's the best record for a major league rookie.
The Mets won 10-1 to avoid losing their third straight in the series after winning five straight.
