Spain's football federation president Luis Rubiales' mouth-to-mouth kiss on a female player after the World Cup championship was a "lesson for the world", Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said today.
"Our international team won twice, the first time on the pitch and the second time to teach the world a lesson about equality between men and women," Sanjay said.
Midfielder Jennifer Hermoso joined the strike last week, saying she did not consent to a kiss on the lips by Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiares at the Women's World Cup final award ceremony.
Speaking today in the southern Spanish city of Malaga, Sanjay paid tribute to the stance taken by the competitors.
Last week, the Spanish women's footballers' union Futpro released a statement in which El Moso and 80 other players said they would not accept call-ups to the national team if the Spanish football Federation's "current leadership remains unchanged."
The 46-year-old Rubiares, despite outside criticism, refused to resign, triggering widespread criticism.
On the 1st of this month, the Spanish Sports Court has agreed to investigate Rubiares forced kiss incident. The scandal-plagued Rubiares insists he will defend himself and "prove the truth."
Meanwhile, former national team captain Veronica Boquete told AFP television today that the scandal was "the straw that broke the camel's back".
She said the scandal meant "a lot of other things happened when there were no cameras, when there were no other people, when it was not the final of the World Cup, normalise and let go of things that should not have been normalised and should not have been left alone".
