Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Alexander Hurts, 24, led his team to consecutive victories over the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Cougars, Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals over a five-week stretch of the regular season starting Sept. 11. Not only does it lead the NFL's NL East group, but it is the only one of the 32 teams in the regular tournament with a five-game winning record.
The Eagles drew 63,919 fans to State Farm Stadium in Greendale, Ariz., on the night of Oct. 9 to challenge the Cardinals in the Conference West Division, a 98 percent attendance rate.
Herz's current performance is comparable to that of 27-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Lavon Mahomes II.
Herz, who was born in Houston, Texas, and attended the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma, has completed 126 of 189 passes this season for four touchdowns, a 67.9 percent success rate of 1,359 yards, two interceptions but 11 sacks, and 68 carries for 186 yards. He has had five consecutive outings in which he has attempted at least 25 passes in a game and has at least 16 receptions for at least 204 yards. In addition, he personally carries the ball for at least 20 yards per game.
Mahomes is 4-1 this season and has completed 126 of 189 passes for 15 touchdowns, a 66.7 percent success rate of 1,398 yards, two interceptions but eight sacks, and four carries for 28 yards. He has had five consecutive outings in which he has attempted at least 35 passes in a game and has had at least 20 receptions for at least 235 yards.
The Eagles took a 14-10 halftime lead and scored on a pass or kick drive for all four quarters. The Cardinals came up empty on 1st and 3rd. The Eagles gained 357 yards in the game, including 139 rushing yards, three penalties for a loss of 30 yards and two quarterback sacks for a loss of 21 yards. The Cardinals gained 363 yards in the game, including 124 rushing yards, two penalties for a loss of 15 yards and one quarterback sack for a loss of 11 yards. The Cardinals had one turnover and the Eagles had possession for 34 minutes and 39 seconds, compared to 25 minutes and 21 seconds.
The Eagles and Cardinals have a lot of experience. Since November 10, 1935, the Eagles have won 60, lost 57 and drawn five times in 122 regular and post-season games.
The Eagles are scheduled to play Sunday, Oct. 16, at home against the 4-1 Dallas Cowboys from the same group.
