Draymond Green's punching of Jordan Poole was temporarily put to rest as the Warriors announced that he would be fined instead of suspended and would return to the team from practice. But the decision still sparked controversy, with different opinions on whether the game should be banned.
"I would say when you choose not to ban Green, they can't get back together," said Jalen Rose. "The Boll people won't forgive Green, and they'll be annoyed by the team's decision not to ban him." Football critic Jeff Van Gundy Jr. has a different opinion.
"The Warriors aren't running a manners school or teaching civic ethics, so they're just doing what's in their best interest to win," Van Gundy Jr. pointed out. "They suspended him for yelling at Kevin Durant, so why not now? Because Durant is more important and they wanted to highlight it and tried to sign him back."
"The Warriors are looking at this situation differently, and it's not easy because you're not trying to do what's fair to Ball, you're not trying to teach Green a lesson, you're just trying to do what's best for the team," he added. According to ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, giving Green the opening day ring was a major consideration.
