The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Association Players Union (NBPA) are expected to reach an agreement to lower the draft age limit from 19 to 18 by 2024, sports news website The Athlete reported today.

The change could open the door for high school students to jump straight into the NBA draft. The league set the draft age limit at 19 in 2005.

Both the league and the union can opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement on Dec. 15, and according to reports, both want to lower the draft age.

The two sides have been discussing details and additional measures and are expected to meet face-to-face this week, according to The Athletic.

Other changes said to be under discussion include adding a mental health component to the disabled list, stiffer luxury tax penalties and a focus on fan etiquette.
