Defending U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev of Russia advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Open on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 win over qualifier Wu Yibing of China. His next fight against Australian "bad boy" Nick Kyrgios could be a good one.
Medvedev looked good to defend his title in the first two rounds against American Stefan Kozlov and France's Arthur Rinderknech, firing 12 ACES and forcing 12 break points, CNA quoted Reuters as saying.
Medvedev said of defending his title: "If you ask me what can be improved, I don't think much, maybe I should reduce some of the double faults. But this is only by critical standards, otherwise it is a high level of competition."
"If I keep this up, I have a good chance of playing well," he said. "But the next match will not be easy. I will try to recover well and give it my best shot."
