Taiwan added Yu-CHENG Chang TO THE Rays' BIG picture on Tuesday. He hit a lucky infield single in the eighth inning and drove in two runs. The Rays poured in six runs in one inning, and the Yankees raised the white flag and sent fielders to the plate to finish the inning.
Yucheng CHANG, WHO DID NOT START, TOOK OVER AT SECOND BASE WITH THE RAYS LEADING 3-0 IN THE EIGHTH INNING AND HAD A SINGLE WITH TWO RBIS, GIVING HIM 98 HITS IN HIS MAJOR LEAGUE CAREER.
Chang was in the lineup with runners on second and third in the bottom of the eighth inning. He swept a soft infield fly ball that landed lucky. Pitcher Greg Weissert retrieved the ball too late to block the infield single.
After THE LUCKY HIT, THE RAYS 'OFFENSE SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE, AND ZHANG REACHED BASE IN ALL SIX OF HIS NEXT SIX AT-BATS, INCLUDING TWO HITS AND FOUR WALKS, AS THE RAYS SCORED SIX RUNS IN AN INNING TO EXTEND THEIR DEFICIT TO 9-0.
With the score getting out of hand, the Yankees decided to send fielder Marwin Gonzalez to the plate and get an out against Harold Ramirez to finally end eight long innings.
Rays starter Jeffrey Springs picked up his seventh win of the season in 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven.
