Since drafting Ben Simmons with the No. 1 overall pick in 2016, the 76ers have let him develop at the ball-handling position, hoping that with his size and versatility, he can carve out an offensive playmaker like Magic Johnson or LeBron James, Take the team to the next level.
But after six years together, the two sides ended up in a trade, and former NBA star Jalen Rose said on the show that the Sixers' choice of Simmons at point guard was a mistake.
"The Sixers got Simmons wrong. They shouldn't have played him at point guard. It's hard to put a guy on the floor if he's not trying to shoot from the perimeter." Ross said.
Rose agreed that Simmons, with the Nets, could play a four - or five-point role in a small-ball lineup with shooters like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the perimeter and not worry too much about shooting.
"Now that he's gone to the Nets, he can play the five in the small-ball lineup, he doesn't have to worry about shooting, he has a chance to be a productive offensive engine. And with Durant, he doesn't have to be the go-to guy, he can be a defender and a playmaker." Ross said.
