● The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Mets 4-3 on the first day of their three-day visit to New York City.
In front of 46,607 fans at Citi Field in New York City on August 30, the New York Mets hit 10 hits, including two home runs, and the Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team in the MLB to win 90 games this season.
The Mets were 82-47 going into the game, starting 30-year-old right-hander Taijuan Emmanuel Walker, who already had 10 wins. The Dodgers, 89-38 before the game, were started by Andrew Mark Heaney, a 31-year-old left-hander who previously played for the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees.
Since the Mets and Dodgers are leading the Eastern and Western divisions of the MLB, the series in New York City is important for predicting the postseason. Since June 29, the Dodgers have been on a tear, going 45-10 and losing their opponents by 287 points, reducing their opponents' cumulative runs to just 400, the best performance in the majors.
The Mets are looking forward to a matchup with the Dodgers, who are 25-7 against them since the start of the 2017 season, including 12-1 at Citi Field.
The Mets reached base on a bunt in the first inning and took advantage of a pitcher's error. In the third inning, right fielder Starling Javier Marte of the Dominican Republic hit a home run 388-feet to left-center field with one out and no one on base. It was his 15th shutout of the season. In the fourth inning, the sixth left fielder Mark David Canha hit a home run 423 feet to left-center field with one out and no one on base. It was his 11th of the season.
The Mets sent Walker to start the night, throwing 54 strikes on 92 pitches in 5.1 innings. Against 25 batters, he allowed three runs and three homers on five hits, struck out five times and walked three times. His ERA was 3.45, regardless of the victory.
The home team also called up Joely Rodriguez, a 30-year-old Dominican left-hander who pitched 0.1 innings on 13 pitches, nine of them strikes, giving up two clutch hits and one run, Posting a 5.17 ERA and losing for the fourth time this season.
The METS used FIVE pitchers IN THE close game, only to LOSE IN THE seventh INNING.
