The Los Angeles Dodgers won 2-1 in San Diego on Oct. 14, when right-hander Anthony D. Gonsolin pitched 1.1 innings on 42 pitches and forced five relief workers.
It's not surprising that the Dodgers started the playoffs with 111 victories, but it was a big deal to follow up with a loss, especially when the left-hander Clayton Kershaw, the "strikeout king" of the postseason, started.
The Los Angeles Dodgers from Southern California played the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium on the evening of October 12 in front of a crowd of 53,122 (95 percent capacity) and lost 3-5 after 3 hours and 34 minutes. Kershaw STARTED FIVE INNINGS IN a game that didn't matter. Visiting RIGHT-hander Yu Darvish, WHO ALSO STARTED five INNINGS, used an electronic device to communicate with the catcher for the first time and got the win.
Every October, it is "Kershaw TIME," as his personal performance on the field affects the outcome and situation of the major League playoff game again and again.
The Dodgers are 322 points apart from their opponents this regular season. The team is expected to increase the margin to 411 points in the playoffs.
Kershaw, 34, was born in Dallas, Texas. He is 6 feet 4 inches tall and made his major league debut on May 25, 2008. In 15 seasons in Major League Baseball, he has been an All-Star nine times and won the NL Pitcher of the Year award three times. He only wore the Dodgers uniform in the regular season, and he played in 401 games (including 398 starts) with 2,581 innings. His record was 197-87. He gave up 1,955 hits with 206 home runs, 777 runs and 711 ERA, while striking out 2,807 and walking 629 on four pitches. He had 39 touches, 95 snaps and 22 fouls for a 2.48 ERA.
He WENT 12-3 WITH 96 HITS AND 10 homERS, 36 RUNS AND 32 ERA, 137 strikeouts AND 23 WALKS ON FOUR PITCHES, TWO TOUCHES and ONE FOUL WITHOUT A VIOLENT THROW, AND a 2.28 ERA IN 22 GAMES (WITH ONE START) THIS REGULAR SEASON.
In other words, Kershaw, who has been struggling with his lower back, still has 22 games of at least 121.2 innings in each of the last two regular seasons, and wins in double figures. Over THE years, Kershaw has regularly accumulated at least 107.2 innings in a single season, with a maximum of 232.2 innings, and such excellent and reliable performance has paved the way for his future Hall of Fame nomination.
Kershaw is a seasoned postseason player. He has appeared in 21 series and 37 games (31 starts) in 11 seasons, going 13-12 with a 52% win rate in 194 innings. He has allowed 159 hits and 29 homers, allowed 96 runs and 91 ERA, struck out 213 and walked 50 on four pitches. He has 4 touches without fouls and 11 snaps. He has a 4.22 ERA.
The 2020 Dodgers won the Major League championship with a 4-2 record. Kershaw LED THE WAY, BEATING THE Tampa BAY RAYS 8-3 ON Oct. 20 AND LEADING HIS TEAMMATES TO A 4-2 VICTORY ON THE ROAD ON Oct. 25.
Kershaw's appearance at the moment is a necessary means for the Dodgers to save the game.
