The battle for Georgia's Senate seat in the 2022 midterm election is set to be held on December 6, as none of the three candidates received a majority of votes. Because of the state's rules, a candidate must win more than 50 percent of the vote to be elected.
At present, as a Nevada Senate seat confirmed by the Democratic Party on the night of 12, that means that the Democratic Party has mastered 50 seats, becoming the majority. Even if Republicans win the re-election in Joe State, they will still fall short of a majority.
Senator Raphael Warnock, a Democrat, had a narrow lead in the first vote on March 8, but was within 1 percentage point of his Republican challenger, Herschel Walker. The third candidate, independent and independent Chase Oliver, received only 2.1% of the vote and was assured of elimination.
The candidates have less than four weeks to win over voters. Mr Warnock will continue to highlight the party's record, such as fighting COVID-19 and improving infrastructure; Mr. Walker will have to work harder to shake off allegations that he abetted and paid for an abortion for his girlfriend in 2009.
This time, absentee mail voting and early voting will also be used. Voters can apply for voting by communication from now on if they wish, but their ballots must not be sent out until after November 18; The deadline is December 6, when polling stations close. The early voting period runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, but some counties start even earlier.
A secondary candidate would reject Trump and welcome Desantis
Republicans now face another embarrassment. During the previous campaign, Trump made every effort to support Walker. There are growing voices in the party that hold Trump responsible for the GOP's lower-than-expected midterm results, and hope the former president doesn't come back to Georgia to stir up trouble, especially if he could scare off independent voters and suburban women. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a bullish Republican who won re-election, is seen as the top candidate for the nomination.
But according to people close to Trump, it will be hard to keep the reluctant former president away from the podium in Georgia. And he is likely to announce his candidacy for the presidency in 2024 soon, and will not miss any opportunity to promote himself
